silver earrings

When my mom was growing up, my grandmother was always trying to get her to get her ears pierced, but mom was not interested. Grandmother would offer her beautiful silver earrings, but they were all for pierced ears. I think that was grandma’s way of enticing her to get her ears pierced, but it never worked and over the years mom told me she gave away many pairs of earrings simply because she didn't want to get her ears pierced. She said that occasionally she'd find a pair of silver earrings for people who didn’t have their ears pierced, but for the most part the selection was pretty sparse. I guess that was why I only remember seeing her wear three pair of earrings in my entire life, even though many people probably would never guess that she didn't have her ears pierced.

She said she knew I wouldn't be that cruel and tell her about the silver earrings only to make her wait until May to receive them. She knows me well enough to know that I wouldn't do that, even though I may tease her about it and keep her guessing. I can't wait to see them on her.
